Last night I finally went live with another site on Habari, Cockrum Publishing, the main site of this blog.

Open source source software is like a lot of other software. As Michael C. Harris said in a comment on Sag Rising,

A while back I went on a quest to find a feedreader that I liked, would run off a memory stick, and didn't involve Google. I happened on the Firefox extension, Sage.

I just uploaded a new version of Arctic Ice, a simple theme for Habari.

One of the reasons I started looking at Habari was it's promise to be able to host multiple sites on one installation of the software. If you have multiple sites, that can save a fair amount of space on your server, and it makes upgrading much easier. Install the updated software once, and all your sites are automatically updated.

In What I Like About Habari I noted that out of the box Habari doesn't have a wysiwyg editor. Everything is written in bare html.

SQLite is a great little database engine. It is used in Firefox, Skype, the iPhone, and Symbian smartphones. PHP has built in access to SQLite. It may be the most widely deployed database engine in the world.

I run several sites, one of which is the online home of my family's movie theatre, The Ambridge Family Theatre. Over the weekend I noticed that bandwidth usage jumped to several megabytes daily. In trying to find out why, I discovered that a popular Polish site was hotlinking to the movie poster images I use.

On Saturday, February 2, 2008, the Habari team is having a bug hunt. They'll be finding and fixing bugs, and updating the documentation in preparation for the release Habari Version 0.4.
